To all whose ancestors came over to the United States from 1892-1924, there are multiple sites available for trying to find them.

My personal favorite is Ellis Island. Although Ellis Island has its own search engine, my favorite search engine for using this site is Searching Enhanced Ellis Island Database in One Step. This site is found on JewishGen.org, and happens to be the best way out there for searching Ellis Island's records.

This site is the most thorough available (to date) for searching Ellis Island's wealth of information. Possible search terms include: First and Last Names, Name of Companion, Town Name, Ship Name, Port Name, Year of Arrival Range, Month, Day, Age at Arrival, Year of  birth, Start Search Entry at ___, Marital Status, Gender, and includes the following possible ethnicities to specify the search range:

Abyssinian Afghan African African (black) Albanian Algerian Alsatian American Arabian Argentinian Armenian Asian Australian Austrian Basque Bavarian Belgian Bengalese Bermudian Bessarabian Black Bohemian Bolivian Bosnian Brazilian British Bulgarian Burmese Cambodian Canadian Carinthian Caucasian Cent Amer Ceylonese Chilean Chinese Colombian Congolese Costa Rican Croatian Cuban Cypriot Czech Dalmation Danish Dominican Dutch East Indian Ecuadoran Egyptian El Salvadoran English Estonian European Falklander Filipino Finnish Flemish French French-Can Galician Georgian German Gibraltarian Goanese Greek Guatemalan Guyanese Gypsy Haitian Hawaiian Herzegovinian Hindu Honduran Hungarian Icelander Indian Iraqi Irish Islam Istrian Italian Jamaican Japanese Jewish Korean Kurdish Kustenlander Latin Latin Amer Latvian Lebanese Liberian Libyan Liechtensteiner Lithuanian Livonian Luxembourger Maceonian Malaccan Malayan Maltese Manxman Mauritanian Mexican Monegasque Mongolian Montenegrin Moravian Moroccan Mulatto Native Amer Newfoundlander New Zealander Nicaraguan North Amer Norwegian Pacific Islander Palestinian Panamanian Paraguayan Parsi Persian Peruvian Polish Pomeranian Portuguese Prussian Puerto Rican Roumanian Russian Ruthenian San Marinese Scandinavian Scottish Senegalese Servian Siamese Sierra Leonean Singaporean Slav Slovak Slovenian Somalilander South Africa South Amer Spanish Spanish Amer Surinamese Swedish Swiss Syrian Tangerine Tunisian Turkish Ukrainian Uruguayan Venezuelan Walloon Welsh West Indian White Yugoslav Zoroastrian

An example of searching would be when trying to search an uncommon surname such as Opacity, a name with Slovak roots. Searching for this surname come up with:

When searching for a more-common surname, such as Abramson, further search terms may apply: Abramson, dates between 1892-1924, male, and Russia. Right now the hits that I am trying to find deal specifically with Abramson’s from Minsk, but other areas of Russia may be included as well. From an original listing for more than 500 Abramson’s from not including anything more than Abramson and Russia to 132 when adding more information, there is a likely chance that the search may find the right Abramson. Search results including specifically Minsk include:
34 Abramson, Ghuve Minsk 6  1896  1902   view  view  view  view  view
112 Abramson, Rubin Minsk 11  1891  1902   view  view  view  view  view
