Inscriptions Found on Tombstones and Monuments in Early Latter-day Saint Burial Grounds
The database features burials in the Joseph Smith Homestead, Old Nauvoo Pioneer Cemetery on Parley Street in Nauvoo, and the Pioneer Cemetery in Winter Quarters.
Listen to Susan Black talk about the database. LISTEN Note from compiler: In June of 1978, representing the faculty of Religious Instruction at Brigham Young University, I had the opportunity to attend the dedication of the "Monuments to Women" in Nauvoo, Illinois. During the last session of the dedicatory service, I felt prompted to visit the Parley Street Cemetery. There I gathered names and facts engraved on the tombstones and later correlated this information with information I had received from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Compiled by Susan Easton Black. With gratitude I extend appreciation to all those who have contributed to this work. Of special mention are the Relief Society sisters of the Provo Utah East Sharon Stake, Pleasant View 1st Ward, for their hours of research; and the Brigham Young University Religious Instruction faculty.
